This well documented instrument is a timestamp of history in the world of guitars. The C.F. Martin & Co have verified this instrument as one that reflects their craftsmanship from between 1839 and 1867. The guitar is stamped with the NY stamp based on distribution, however they note that it was built in Nazareth, PA. Characteristic of these small bodied guitars, it is light as a feather and resonates quite well. While the body is quite small, the neck still has some width to it and lends itself well to players of any hand size. The neck shape is a V shape that is very thin. This instrument is strung in the style of a gut string guitar, as it should be, and it plays very well. Some modification notes include a replacement bridge, added fingerboard dots, and replaced nut and saddle. Other maintenance includes reinforced top/back/side cracks and a large area of finish touch-up on top. The endpin is also recessed into the tailblock.
The lineage of the guitar is well recorded in the included paperwork including the transfer of ownership between generations of the family. This instrument is a fine sounding instrument and is sure to surpass expectations.
Comes with the original "coffin" Martin case.
