This 1938 000-18 is a remarkably rare piece with unrivaled pre-war Martin tone. The mahogany back and sides have been refinished, while the spruce top shows an overspray that preserves its original character beneath. The guitar has seen a number of repairs, including a neck reset, refret, replaced nut and saddle, and a reglued bridge plate. Additional work includes a replacement bridge and pickguard, with the neck refinished and the headstock veneer oversprayed. A spruce tear beneath the fingerboard extension has been reglued, ensuring stability. With its careful restoration, the instrument remains a strong representative of Martin’s golden era, with astounding clarity and excellent playability.
