Description
There’s no overstating it—the 100w plexi panel Marshall is undoubtedly one of the most iconic amps in rock and roll history. This 1969 Marshall Super Lead marks the beginning of the JMP era, a time when Marshall solidified its reputation as the go-to brand for performance-grade amps, trusted by some of the greatest guitarists of all time. This particular amp has a slightly darker tone than typical Super Leads, and it sounds absolutely incredible!
Aesthetically, this amp is in near-perfect condition. It’s clear the amp was never used for gigging, and any wear is minimal, especially considering the white covering. This amp was among the first built for export to the US, as indicated by the factory-wired 3-prong power cord (now replaced with a modern one) and the polarity switch. This is one of the first amps built with the stand-up version of the Dagnall T2562 power transformer. Internally, there are some small changes, though the original preamp components are still intact. Here’s a list of the changes, and feel free to check the pictures for more details.
- Changed electrolytic caps, fuse holders, and screen grid resistors. Added dropping resistor for screens.
- One power tube socket changed
- Changed resistor to set bias range, and knee resistor added to presence control.
- Preamp & phase inverter section all original, although there is some soldering touchups. Bright Volume cap disconnected.
- Suspected changed front panel logo on head shell.
