Gibson set the standard for "Top of the line" with the Super 400. Initially introduced in 1934, the Super 400 was a luxurious model in its function as an instrument as well as its visual appeal. There are elements of excellence that serve the instrument, like its carved spruce top and beautiful maple back and sides selected from premium materials, and elements that serve the player. The aspects of the guitar that serve the player are intentional details like the pearl inlay on the back of the headstock, art deco tailpiece, adjustable bridge and beautiful fretboard inlays. The guitar is a stunning presence because of its appointments as well as its overall size. This Super 400, formerly owned by Jimmy Atkins (brother of Chet Atkins), is a remarkable archtop with smooth, resonant projection. It remains in excellent condition, showing only minor wear, including light finish abrasions and some fret wear. Playability is superb, and the tone is rich and expressive. Included are the original hardshell case, pickguard, and a floating DeArmond pickup.
