This Goldtop was originally born with P90 pickups in both positions—this offered a tone less aggressive and popular than the Gibson PAF humbuckers associated with the famed 'Bursts'. The P90 cavities on this Les Paul were routed out to accommodate PAFs for a more aggressive sound. The guitar is refretted to accommodate better playability and the tuners are replacement Schallers. While the tuner holes have been reamed out to fit the newer tuners, the originals are still in the case. Other than the modifications mentioned, this guitar is in very good condition with amazing finish checking and patina. There are few guitars that come around with a history and playability at this level; this is a truly incredible piece from 1956.

Comes with its original hard shell case
