The Gibson SG design was introduced in 1961 as a complete replacement for the Les Paul, the earliest of which, like this one, was still labeled as a "Les Paul" on the truss rod. The new design was thought to be a more modern solid body guitar, with sleek beveled edges and two sharp cutaways. By late 1963, the Les Paul moniker was dropped, and the SG (or Solid Guitar) became an entirely separate model. The SG Custom carried on the high-end tradition of the Les Paul Custom, and featured an elegant ivory finish with gold hardware. This particular example was refinished and has aged quite gracefully, however the head plate veneer was left original with its checking. The original PAF pickups have also all been rewound, potted, and uncovered, but sound incredible. Finally, the guitar has been refretted. This is an insanely stylish guitar that has not suffered aesthetically for the modifications.
Comes with original pink lined Lifton Case.
