A reissue of the highly-coveted Sunburst era, this 1972 Les Paul packs a punch in a package full of vintage character. This run of 1958/1954 "reissues" were the first of the Gibson brand. There were ~1100 made as gold tops and only ~25 made in this double sunburst style. John Fogerty famously loves the goldtop versions. While its obvious now that their designs are very of their 1970s time, and not as much straight reissues from 1958, they have some interesting features that are very different from their deluxe counterparts: small headstock profile, no volute, wraptail, sunburst on back and top, three-piece maple top, barrel knobs, "thin binding" showing the maple cap, and a single slab (non-pancake) body. The stunning burst finish to the front and back shows signs of stage-battered player wear giving this guitar that true authentic feel; however, there are some red colored marker touchups. The guitar has been routed from the original P90s to humbuckers (now housing replacement DiMarzio pickups). Some people found in the conversion predicament choose to cover the route with factory-style "goof rings" and put P90s back in. The DiMarzio's sound great though.
Includes hard shell case.
