When the Les Paul first entered the market in the early 1950s, no one could have predicted its effect on music and pop culture worldwide. This example from 1956 comes to us with a history of tasteful modifications, but retains the pieces that truly count. At one point in its life it was refinished in Grestch Orange, leading Tom Murphy to perform a Black top-only refinish. He used Murphy Lab checking lacquer for a finish that looks incredibly authentic. The original neck finish was gently wiped with acetone long ago, obscuring the original six-digit ink-stamped serial number, but the finish on the peghead remains untouched and the neck profile was not compromised in any way.
The entire bridge and tailpiece apparatuses were replaced with aged Historic Reissue pieces, as were the black butyrate knobs and strap buttons. The switch washer has correct 1956 font and the output jack was painted by Tom Murphy. Otherwise this guitar contains original components, including all original electronics, providing deliciously mellow P-90 tone to ripping 50s rock n' roll lead.
Includes 5-Latch Lifton HSC in super clean condition.
