By 1958, the Gibson L-5 CES had become one of the company's flagship electric archtops, combining carved construction with the then-modern convenience of dual humbuckers. This example has seen a number of thoughtful repairs over the years, including a refret with replacement neck binding and neck overspray, a new nut, and a replacement bridge. The missing pickguard and later '60s reflector knobs—three of which are missing their inserts—give the instrument an honest, played-in appearance, while the original neck tone knob still retains its "Tone" insert. This L-5 CES tells the story of an instrument that remained in regular use, with maintenance performed as needed to keep it in service.
