In the 1930s, if the Great Depression didn't get you down, you might have been able to swing for the Cadillac of Gibson's archtop collection, the L-5. In 1937, an L-5 with a hardshell case was $303, or $6.6k in today's money. In contrast, a legendary Advance Jumbo with case was $96.50, or $2.1k in today's money. L-5's have always been the elite connoisseurs choice. This 1937 model showcases some of the transitional features, most notably the longer 25.5 scale length. The instrument has some wear, but is in excellent condition for an 85 year old instrument. If instruments were treated like art, the craftsmanship and rarity of this one would make it revered as a Vermeer.
Includes its original hardshell case.
