The articulate voicing of sloped shoulder dreadnoughts offer a character to both the tonality of the instrument and how the player interacts with it. This J-50 from 1954 has a remarkably light touch that exacts every ounce out of the spruce and mahogany, whether lightly picked or strummed with a heavy hand. Numerous repairs have kept this guitar in working order for nearly 70 years. Sonically the instrument does not suffer from these repairs. Age and use are known to yield fine guitars like this one time and time again. Cosmetically this guitar has a number of visible repaired cracks in the top and dings and scratches all over. Most notably a scratch across the lower bout of the guitar on the top. Repairs include: bridge plate plugs, a bridge re-glue, neck set and refret. A rosewood heel cap was added as well as a strap button. Four cleats secure three top cracks on the bass side above the sound hole. There is finish touchup on the bottom rim where it meets the binding and some finish reaction across the headstock. Overall this J-50 is in great playing condition and will accompany a player very well with its open sound.
