This 1963 Fender Stratocaster started life as a custom colored guitar, it was Olympic White. A long time ago, probably at least 40 years ago, the instrument was refinished in Candy Apple Red. The transparent red top coat they used is shot over a very thin coat of of metallic gold; just exactly like one of the ways they did it at Fender back in the day. The red is a slightly different shade than the one Fender used. It has a copper influence to it vs. Fender's more ruby red color. The color of the guitar is influenced by a couple other factors: the white undercoat and the fact that the red is a single thin coat, as is the gold. It all adds up to a great looking finish that looks like a true custom color. The work is all top notch as well and looks professionally done.
The guitar's had a recent refret here at Carter Vintage and the nut's been replaced so it plays great. The pickups sound exactly the way you'd want a '63 Stratocaster's to sound. This guitar has tone for days. The pickguard on the guitar is a great looking replacement. The original pickguard was cracked in a couple of places and is in the case.
This guitar plays great, looks great and sounds fantastic. It comes in its original black Fender hardshell case.
