The Collings OM1 JL was born from a detailed partnership between Bill Collings and acclaimed guitarist Julian Lage, drawing heavily from Julian’s cherished 1939 Martin 000-18. Compared to other Collings models, it leans more toward a vintage-inspired sound and feel, with a focus on warmth, responsiveness, and the character of a well-played prewar instrument. It features a custom satin lacquer finish, a neck profile shaped after Julian’s original guitar, and a bracing design that later influenced the company’s Traditional Series. Altogether, it creates a remarkably open and expressive instrument that responds effortlessly to a light touch while maintaining clarity and balance. This particular 2023 example includes an upgraded Adirondack spruce top, offering greater headroom and dynamic range, especially when playing with others. It remains in excellent condition with minimal signs of use and includes its original handmade Collings hardshell case.
