Built in collaboration with Kris Kristofferson, this 2012 Gibson SJ reflects the design and feel of his long-favored Southern Jumbo. The sunburst spruce top and mahogany back and sides give it a warm, balanced sound with strong midrange focus. Traditional appointments include a celluloid pickguard, multi-ply binding, and parallelogram fingerboard inlays (plus a custom Thunderbird inlay on the 12th fret). The comfortable slim neck carve and short scale make it easy to play, while the overall build carries a clear nod to Gibson’s classic slope-shoulder heritage. Cosmetically, it remains in very good shape with a few finish dings and mild wear. As far as modifications go, the electronics have been removed and the pick guard has been replaced. It remains a thoughtful tribute to one of country music’s great songwriters.
