Within the Tweed Fender lineup resides many legendary circuits. Among them is the 5F4 Super Amp, which is far less common than most of the others, making them seemingly rare to come across. Surprisingly, this era Super is not far removed from the Low-Powered Twin amp on the preamp side, offering a similar sound to Fender’s flagship amp.
This amp has been professionally re-covered, using what appears to be period-appropriate tweed, giving it an authentic look.
Internally, the power cord and electrolytic caps have been replaced. Three coupling caps in the preamp were also changed, but all of the original parts are included with the amp. The rest of the preamp stands as original. The power transformer is the original Triad 8087, though it looks to have been re-wound, sporting new 600V wiring. See circuit photos for further details.
That said, it hasn’t missed a step—The voltages line up perfectly. This is a rare and fantastic-sounding amp, putting out 18 watts through a pair of Celestion Alnico Gold 10s!
