The Yamaha L-55 represents the top of Yamaha’s line in the 1980s, built with a solid spruce top and beautifully figured Brazilian rosewood back and sides, all housed in the company’s original jumbo body design. It’s a visually striking instrument, with abalone trim along the top, back, and headstock, a distinctive “L” inlay, and a double abalone-ring rosette that give it a truly high-end presence. Tonally, it delivers the powerful, dynamic character Yamaha is known for, with strong, punchy low-mids and clear, shimmering highs rich in overtones. It responds equally well to a flatpick—producing that signature Yamaha punch—or a lighter fingerstyle approach that brings out its depth and sweetness. This example is in good condition with visible playwear throughout, no major repairs, and a very comfortable setup, though the saddle is quite low. A pickup has been installed, and it includes the original hardshell case.
