This Warwick Thumb 6-String is an exceptional early example of Warwick’s distinctive neck-through bass design. The three-piece solid Bubinga body and Wenge neck with Bubinga laminations are finished in a hand-rubbed beeswax treatment, leaving the wood open-pored and particularly tactile in the hand. Two passive Bartolini humbuckers run through an active MEC 2-band circuit, producing the deep, aggressive growl that suits the Thumb’s unconventional design, while the six-string layout and precise intonation give it plenty of range and definition. The Schaller-made black hardware has the robust, precision-built quality associated with early German Warwick basses. This is a particularly compelling Thumb for players and collectors interested in the company’s formative years.
