Vintage Traynor amps are widely known as excellent platforms for modification, thanks to their affordable price, spacious chassis, and high-quality factory components. Even in stock form, they feature desirable Hammond transformers and British mustard capacitors. This particular amp has been modified with the following features:
- Post-phase inverter master volume (located on the rear panel)
- Pull-boost function on the Volume 1 control
- "High" control converted to a Vox-style Cut control
- Half-power switch in place of the original ground switch
- Replaced power cord and updated electrolytic caps
The remaining details of the modifications are unknown, but the workmanship appears to be well executed, and the amp is surprisingly quiet in operation.
As with any modified vintage amplifier, buyers should use their own discretion, as long-term reliability is difficult to predict. Please see the circuit photos for further details. The end result is a Marshall-style voice with ample low end, with added flexibility provided by the expanded controls.
