This S.S. Stewart Piccolo Banjo is a genuine piece of the Classic Banjo Era from one of the giants of 19th-century American banjo making. S.S. Stewart was manufacturing tens of thousands of banjos a year at the time and was instrumental in elevating the banjo from minstrel-show novelty to legitimate concert instrument. This piccolo model is the smaller, higher-pitched variant of the standard banjo, prized for that snappy, bright tonal character that cuts through in a mixed ensemble.
