The Selmer Thunderbird is one of the more unique British combos of the mid-’60s, built during the company’s push to compete with Vox at the height of the British Invasion. Like the Zodiac, it features Selmer’s unmistakable Crocskin covering and a stout 2x12 format, along with the TruVoice panel. The Thunderbird offers two independently voiced channels with Volume, Bass, and Treble controls, along with Selmer’s TruVoice push-button tone selections for a surprisingly wide range of sounds.
It also features onboard tremolo and reverb, giving it everything you could ask for from a vintage British combo. The result is a powerful, distinctly British-sounding amp with plenty of character and a voice all its own. Not to mention the iconic "Magic Eye" on the front, which syncs with the oscillation speed of the tremolo!
Selmer amps of this era are already uncommon in the U.S., and the Thunderbird is particularly difficult to find. Between the wild Crocskin cosmetics, unique circuitry, and classic 2x12 format, this is a fantastic piece of ’60s British amp history that stands well apart from the usual Vox and Marshall offerings!
The upper back panel has been re-covered. One of the handles has broken, and the other is heavily worn. It has received a light amount of servicing but remains mostly original, including most of the electrolytic caps. Should someone intend to use it heavily or for prolonged periods, additional servicing would be advised. This amp runs on 220V power and includes a step-up transformer.
