This 2017 Melobro MEL-O-BRO 8-String in Gloss Blue is a resonator design developed from Ted Smith’s long-running experimentation with fiberglass construction and open-chamber resonance. Built with a molded composite body and neck-through design, it offers a strong acoustic response with notable sustain and a broad, open character. Internal wood baffles and sound plates help shape the instrument’s response, blending some of the warmth of a traditional wood-bodied resonator with the projection and rigidity of fiberglass construction. The 8-string configuration expands the harmonic range considerably, making it especially well suited for extended chord voicings and lap steel-style arrangements.
