One look at a McIlroy guitar, and it'll come as no surprise that Dermot McIlroy spent 10 years at Lowden Guitars before striking out on his own in 1990s. His A model guitars are mid-sized jumbos, a versatile design that combines a larger 15-3/4" lower bout with a tight waist. While this may be what he calls a Standard Range model, this guitar sports plenty of premium features. Solid walnut is beautifully balanced by cedar, for a tone that combines the brightness of the former with the warmth of the latter. Overall, it has a balanced, well-rounded voice that responds well to delicate fingerpicking, while still having the body to handle some heavy picking.
In keeping with the Celtic aesthetic, wood binding and purfling add an organic touch, while the satin finish is the perfect enhancement to the wood textures. A pinless ebony bridge makes for easy restringing. This pre-owned model is in excellent condition, with just a few nicks in the top below the bridge.
Hiscox HSC included.
