Included among the Mt. Rushmore of classic British amps, the Hiwatt Custom 50W holds a legendary place. During the Biacrown era they started implementing circuit boards—something the purists may shy away from—but this DR504 lacks nothing in the tone department. The chassis bears the signature of the legendary Harry Joyce, known for his flawless and highly reliable work. Another change from this period was the shift from Partridge to Drake transformers, which some might say adds a touch of Marshall DNA to the sound.
The amp shows moderate signs of previous wear, with some scuffs and scrapes in various areas, but remains structurally solid. Internally, it appears to be all original—please see circuit photos for further details.
Despite being fully functional the buyer should note this amp has long expired filter capacitors. While many amps are run this way for years without issue, anyone planning on prolonged or regular gigging use would be advised to have it serviced.
