This 1948 Gibson SJ-200 is a well-played postwar jumbo with the broad, open response that has long made these early examples so desirable. The maple body and large lower bout give the guitar a strong low end and clear top response, while decades of use have added a dry, seasoned character to the sound. It has received a substantial amount of professional maintenance over the years, including a neck reset, refret, bridge reglue, crack repairs, replacement bone nut, and a maple cap added to the original bridge plate. Additional work includes binding repair, a reglued pickguard, replacement ebony bridge pins with ramped slots, and installation of a pickup jack and strap button. Cosmetically, the guitar shows heavy pick wear, finish checking, neck wear, and dings throughout, along with a small treble side waist back crack. Despite the visible wear and repair history, it remains a structurally solid and highly resonant example with the kind of played-in character expected from a late-1940s SJ-200. Action remains on the higher side, and could eventually benefit from another neck reset, however it still remains
Includes original brown hard shell case.
