Repairs/ModificationsMid-60s Dakota Red factory refinish with codes embossed into body and neck, red touchup on buckle rash on back, Gold anodized guard is vintage but would have come on early 59 JMs and not 1960, replacement pots and caps, replacement cloth wiring, one replacement tuner
Tech NotesLow original frets
In the early 1960s, Fender marketed a custom color chart and started a revolution in the industry. Some people with guitars built prior to the visible option chose to send their guitars into Fender Repair and Restoration for a refinish in the color of their choice. This gentleman also owned a factory matching headstock white Jazzmaster from '59, and likely took inspiration from it in his refinish request in the mid-1960s. The finish color is Dakota Red (which is designated on the neck heel). This was likely done between late 1963 and late 1967, as evidenced by the paint stick mark and headstock logo. The anodized pickguard wouldn't have normally come with a 1960 model or later, but it is vintage and was probably available on request during the refinish process from old stock; this is our best guess. In the early 1970s, some rewiring was done which replaced the pots and caps, but it has the original switches and pickups, which is most important. The guitar has its original frets in it, but it plays cleanly for the time being. We love the sound and look , its a cool part of Fender history and craftsmanship,

Comes in 1960 correct HSC (Brown Tolex with Gold Lining)
