Crafted in 1943 at Epiphone’s New York factory, this 16” Epiphone FT-79 is a rare model from the brand’s pre-Gibson era. Featuring a flat solid spruce top paired with walnut back and sides, and a cherry neck, it delivers a strong, clear, and full tone. The guitar has received a new saddle, and a replaced heel cap, with the bridge showing drill marks from a previously installed pickup. It also has a top crack near the pickguard and minor binding separation on the treble side fingerboard extension, though both appear stable.
With a 25.5” scale length, this FT-79 offers a powerful, throaty rumble with tight, focused bass and lower mids. Its volume easily cuts through in a band setting, and its natural playing dynamics make it a joy to play. This rare 1943 Epiphone FT-79 is truly a hidden gem that was recently purchased from the esteemed Schoenberg Instruments. It comes with a non-original hardshell case.
