Danelectro built its guitars out of Masonite over a pine frame back in the '50s and '60s, keeping costs low enough that department stores like Sears sold them under other names. The Longhorn shape came out of that same stretch — a deep double-cutaway body with long horns that make the upper frets easy to reach, originally worked out for Danelectro's basses before it carried over to six-string guitars. This 2010 reissue keeps that same build method and drops in a pair of lipstick-tube pickups, which give it a thinner, more nasal voice than you'd get out of a guitar loaded with humbuckers. The Copper Burst finish adds some color without straying too far from the plain, no-frills look Nathan Daniel was going for when he started the company. It's a light guitar with an odd shape and a tone that doesn't sound like much else, which is a big part of why garage and surf-revival bands kept reaching for these through the 2000s.

Includes Fender gig bag.
