These early Bad Cat amps, with legendary builder Mark Sampson at the helm, are often regarded as a natural extension of the Matchless lineage. Featuring the same incredible quality of parts and wiring, Bad Cat amps offer a slightly different flavor, leaning toward a gainier and more saturated sound than the typical Matchless design.
The Trem Cat is a rare model, offering the full spectrum of tube-driven effects with onboard tremolo and reverb. It features a single EF86-driven channel, with a cap selector tied to the “Tone” switch, along with different gain staging options available through the “Select” control. There’s excellent versatility throughout the control set, paired with a master volume to help manage the overall output. This example is in very good condition, showing light signs of previous wear, along with some slight discoloration to the covering.
