The WY1 is a notable Alvarez-Yairi model originally designed with Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead, introducing a unique body size for the line. Its Western Red cedar top paired with rosewood back and sides offers a versatile response, while the deeper body provides added projection without sacrificing comfort. The extended dovetail neck joint enhances energy transfer between neck and body, improving stability and adjustability. Another defining feature is the Direct Coupled Bridge, which increases down pressure on the top for greater sustain and a responsive feel. Like all Yairi Masterworks instruments, it is crafted from tonewoods seasoned for years in Kani, Gifu, ensuring long-term structural integrity and performance.
