One of Gibson's original solidbody specimens - the model that changed the trajectory of the Michigan manufacturer and sent waves across the electric guitar world - this Les Paul comes to us with a variety of modifications that preserve much of the vintage appeal, and allow the instrument to rest in the hands of a wider range of players.
Originally a fully gold 1954 Les Paul Model, the guitar was refinished to a handsome cherry sunburst that eventually faded to its own unique hue. This refinish also brought light to the three piece maple top, which features a flamed middle piece that becomes even more eye catching when flanked by two more understated, authentic cuts. Fortunately, the person who repainted the instrument preserved the serial number on the back of the headstock in a way that helps it maintain its integrity and roots. Other aspects of the instrument were converted to 1959-type specs - reproduction tune-o-matic bridge, reproduction stop bar tailpiece, additional routing for T-Top humbuckers ("Gibson" embossed pickup covers included) and subsequently shaved pickguard - though the rear of the guitar maintains the darker finish associated with earlier Les Pauls as opposed to sunburst models. Additional modifications include a replaced nut, frets, tuners, knobs, strap buttons, jack plate, control cover (potentially signed by Les Paul), two pots, capacitors, switch tip, switch ring, third fret inlay, neck binding, and assorted screws. The original nut, knobs, capacitors, tuners, and additional mounting hardware are included in the mid 2000s hardshell Gibson case.
Despite its detailed history, the instrument in and of itself remains an inspiring and illustrious piece of Gibson iconography. Playing wonderfully up and down the neck, sounding like any serious Les Paul should, this instrument is perfect for players, studio owners, and collectors alike.
