Few guitars are as universally revered as the Gibson Les Paul Standard “Burst.” Immortalized by legends ranging from Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Paul Kossoff, Billy Gibbons, Mike Bloomfield, Joe Walsh to Joe Perry, these late-’50s and early-’60s Standards represent the absolute pinnacle of Les Paul design—featuring stunning two-piece figured maple tops, resonant mahogany bodies, Seth Lover–designed PAF humbuckers, and, of course, the iconic sunburst finish that gave the Burst its name.

This 1960 example comes with a well-documented history. It was uncirculated and comes from a collector that purchased it in the early 1970s. The neck was slimmed to Jimmy Page–style dimensions, with a truss rod crack repaired here at CVG by Scott Holyfield. The neck was refinished during that work, and the serial number was re-stamped by Tom Murphy, using his personal stamp, afterward. It has been refretted, and the original tuners were replaced with chrome Grovers. Importantly, the guitar retains its original double-black PAF humbuckers, which deliver the clear, dynamic, and endlessly responsive tone these instruments are celebrated for.

Even though it’s a ’60, it has the paint job and knobs more commonly associated with a ’59. Visually, the dark, richly grained Brazilian rosewood fretboard pairs beautifully with the vibrant cherry sunburst top and a truly beautiful 3D maple top, creating a striking presentation. Despite its age and history, the guitar remains in remarkable condition, uncirculated, and has clearly been well cared for over the decades.

It is a genuine privilege to offer this extraordinary Les Paul to the market after more than 50 years out of circulation. The guitar includes its original Lifton 5-latch hardshell case, also in great condition.
