"A guitar should feel like a natural extension of the body and at the same time present itself as art."German luthier Max Spohn's guitars most certainly live up to that ideal. The restrained and modern elegance of his guitars may be the first thing to catch your eye, but it's the playability and tone that will win you over. His MD was inspired by the Somogyi Modified Dreadnought, which in turn was inspired by the original Martin design. Though large in dimension, it has the comfortable playability of a mid-sized guitar, with the benefit of a more powerful and commanding voice. The combination of Honduran rosewood with Swiss moon spruce lends this guitar a voice that has strong fundamentals and notable focus, with a brightness in the high end that makes notes ring out effortlessly. The excellent playability continues to the neck, where the oval profile and perfect carve encourage a relaxed left hand, and a Florentine cutaway gives the player access up to the 20th fret. Max's work continues to impress us with every new guitar we receive.Hiscox HSC included.
