Ervin Somogyi is world renowned, and his work often cited but never duplicated. He started this very special bespoke OM-C featuring “Tree” mahogany back and sides for me in 2018 and completed it in 2021. The Somogyi OM body shape is slightly bigger than other OMs. The "Tree" mahogany was painstakingly sourced for its liveliness, both visually and tonally. This was a very premium set that I fought hard to get, and even includes a matching "Tree" neck, the very last ever made. An "alien" or Gandalf-like figure appears naturally in the center strip of the wood, the only Tree set with such a visual feature, and it has the less common tortoise-shell quilt. Somogyis usually feature a center inlay strip, but that was skipped on this guitar to fully feature the unusual wood grain.Ervin specially selected the European spruce top for its tonal properties and straight grain claw marks. This guitar delivers power, clarity, and warmth, along with sustain and tonal bloom, and its bass response and mid tonal properties are superb. The guitar features a Florentine cutaway and ebony fretboard. The rosette and fret position markers echo Somogyi’s patio theme peghead—a striking accent on an already unique and beautiful guitar.  Somogyi himself described this guitar as a "museum piece"; it’s truly a one-off guitar that can never be recreated. Photos taken by George Post and provided by Ervin Somogyi.
