Luthier Michel Pellerin has received some high praise from fellow Canadian builders Mario Beauregard and Linda Manzer, and for good reason. His modern approach to tried-and-true designs results in guitars that are as elegant looking as they are sounding.
This Small Jumbo is a custom shop model, using the highest grade materials available. In this case, Michel has paired a set of cocobolo with a Swiss Alpine moon spruce top. If you've never dug into the lore of moon spruce, it's worthwhile to check out. Essentially, the wood is harvested at the right time during the lunar cycle when the sap content is at its lowest, resulting in a wood that's stiffer and less prone to warping later on. The resulting tone of this stellar tonewood combination is big, open and resonant, and thanks to the soundport, you the player get to enjoy it as much as your audience. The high end is crisp and clear, the mids warm and rounded, and the bass is rich but not overpowering. A beveled armrest make this larger-bodied small jumbo comfortable to play, and the artfully rendered, art deco-inspired visual elements feel timeless, yet modern.
This 2021 model was originally sold by TNAG, and is back in excellent condition with its original hardshell case.
