Here we've got McPherson's first ever Imbuia guitar! It's also known as "Brazilian walnut", and just check out that rippling grain pattern. A little like figured walnut, a little like quilted mahogany, brought out by a rich dark stain. While it may not be a true walnut, its tonal properties are a bit reminiscent, with a sweet brightness in the high end, a focused, clear bass, and warm, filling mids. Paired with red spruce on their dreadnought-sized MG 4.5 XP, it becomes a powerful, versatile guitar with good looks to match.
Like all of their precisely engineered instruments, this MG sports an offset, and in this case, enlarged, soundhole, a cantilevered neck, and their bespoke over and underpass bracing system in both rosewood and spruce. All of these engineering decisions were made to maximize the potential vibration of that red spruce soundboard. Major player upgrades to complete the package: EVO gold fretwire, pre-installed L.R. Baggs pickup, and custom Ameritage hard case.
