This guitar was built by luthier John Arnold as a recreation of Jimmie Rodgers' Weymann Special. Jimmie Rodgers' guitar was located at the Country Music Hall of Fame in an exhibit celebrating Jimmie as the "Father of Country Music", and Doc visited requesting to play the guitar. The staff obliged, but winced when Doc began tuning it up, so friends recommended luthier John Arnold to build a replica for Doc.
John researched the Waymann Special meticulously, finally building his own Jimmie Rodgers Special Model that was given to Doc Watson in 1990. This guitar is Model #2 built for Doc, and includes in the case the original strings put on the guitar and played by Doc at Station Inn in 1990 and '91.
Visually, the guitar matches Jimmie's original Weymann Special, but it sounds every bit as good as the best Martins to come out of the 20s. A fantastic instrument on its own, and an incredible piece of music history inspired by and played by Country music legends.
Includes hardshell case and original strings used by Doc Watson.
