The Gibson J-160E was a short-lived Gibson model, but forever immortalized from its frequent use by John Lennon. This 1956 example has undergone some notable modifications, but retains a lot of its 50s mojo! The most notable repair is that the fingerboard has been replaced with a newer piece of rosewood. The frets are newer as well, and it is very easy to play. The pickup has been replaced, and there is solder on top of the pots so we are unable to date them and determine their originality. The tuners have been replaced as well as a new nut. There is a crack reglued on the treble side bottom as well as two large cracks on the treble side back. Additionally, the back and sides were refinished. For a full list of these repairs and modifications, check out our specs tab.
This guitar has a very unique tone. It's on the thinner side, but still very powerful and projecting - somewhat similar to a resonator.
Includes modern hard shell case.
