The 1984 Gibson Earl Scruggs Mastertone showcases one of Gibson’s most respected banjo designs, built with a 20-hole flathead tone ring and dual coordinator rods for the projection and clarity long associated with Scruggs’ style. This example has been thoughtfully updated with a replacement head and bridge, a refret, and the addition of railroad spikes for expanded playability. Two of the original tuners have also been replaced with “The Keith” tuners, a popular choice among banjo players. With its ebony inlaid fingerboard and classic Mastertone appointments it remains a fine representation of Gibson’s banjo craftsmanship.
