From Gibson: "Gibson’s Custom, Art & Historic division has created the Chet Atkins L-10, built to the historical specifications of the original custom-ordered Gibson that Atkins acquired from Les Paul. The model gets its unique tonal capabilities from the traditional late-1930s non-cutaway L-5 body and a fingerboard extended to 25 frets.
The Chet Atkins L-10 has a carved spruce top with special multi-ply white/black checkerboard binding, and carved figured-maple back with single-ply white binding. The mahogany neck features a 19-fret ebony fingerboard with a 6-fret extension and split-diamond inlays. Les Paul custom-ordered the original, with the extended fingerboard, in 1938 because he wanted to access the upper-range notes that he had heard gypsy-jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt play, and the guitar eventually came to Atkins. Chet is pictured with the L-10 (customized with an electric pickup and homemade vibrola unit) in publicity shots from his early days on radio."
