A rock solid workhorse dreadnought from Boucher's "Bluegrass Goose" series, this 2020 BG-42-G should be at the top of your list if you're on the market for a contemporary D-18! Boucher Guitars in Quebec source the AAAA-grade Adirondack spruce used on this guitar and others from close to home, being in a location where Picea Rubens grows in abundance. Here they've paired it with South American mahogany, and the result is a lightly built guitar that is responsive and balanced, with a pleasing tone for fingerstyle but plenty of drive and rumbling bass when played with a flatpick. Boucher says:
"The BG-42 is as “present” as all other bluegrass instruments whether you are strumming or soloing. Robin Boucher personally selects Adirondack red spruce for the bracing and soundboard in order to give the instrument its special bluegrass sonority. Rich low ends, driving mids and beefy highs describe the sound spectrum of our Bluegrass Goose. This guitar is incredibly easy to play due to the elevated soundboard radius and the unique profile of the neck which will perfectly match the hand of the guitarist."
In addition to the great tone of this guitar, we love the satin finish on the neck, which has a carve similar to a Martin slight V, sure to appeal to almost any player. The seller always kept this guitar in their temperature and humidity controlled home studio, bringing it to us in like-new condition (it even still has the protective film on the pickguard). Comes in a TKL tweed hard case.
