"I have a personal preference for chestnut; it’s a very light and responsive wood, gives a lot of power to a guitar. I find that it has a tone similar to mahogany but with more basses and low mids." - Virgile Pilon
The sound and look of Virgile's Blind Guitars may be enticingly vintage-inspired, but peek inside and you'll see that the French luthier has an altogether modern approach to building, and he prides himself on stability and durability. This Blind Guitars B-30 is his take on the versatile OM model that emerged in the early 1930s. But it features a tonewood that is decidedly modern in its emerging usage: flamed chestnut! Light and resonant, it'll convert any fans of mahogany or maple who are looking for a crystal clear moderate sustain, plenty of warmth, and a punchy bass. The slinky short scale set-up makes for easy bends and hammer-ons and pull-offs, and we are loving the matte/satin neck finish Virgile used on this latest batch.
The amber sunburst is complemented by further vintage-inspired touches, from the slotted headstock to the satin wood pickguard, Madagascar rosewood bridge, and brass inlays.
