This Ampeg AUB-1, famously wielded by The Band's Rick Danko, is an early and rare example of the company’s first "horizontal" electric bass, introduced in 1966. Designed by Dennis Kager under the influence of Ampeg founder Everett Hull, it features a unique vibration-activated "Mystery Pickup" instead of a conventional magnetic one, catering to jazz and classical players. With its distinctive scroll headstock and large F-hole body, the instrument was innovative but never really a strong competitor to Fender’s Precision or Jazz basses, becoming somewhat of a cult classic. This well-preserved example retains its original hardware and finish, offering a distinct tonal character and appeal to both collectors and players seeking a unique vintage bass.
Includes vintage hard shell case.
