In 1934, Martin's dreadnought models went from a 12-fret neck to a 14-fret, but the standard for Hawaiian models remained 12-fret. This 1934 D-18H is one of only three made by Martin, and it has been converted to standard (aka Spanish-style) setup. if that's not historically important enough, it was owned and used extensively by Norman Blake. It was Blake's guitar of choice for his Homespun instructional Norman Blake's Guitar Techniques. It's on the cover of Flatpickin' in the Kitchen (with Tut Taylor) and While Passing Along This Way (with Nancy Blake). He also played it on Whiskey Before Breakfast (though it was not on the album cover).
