Shortly after Vox debuted entry-level models for guitarists in 1961, they embarked on creating professional-grade instruments. Vox was adamant that their professional models would not mimic existing guitar designs. Instead, they sought unique and iconic body shapes that would instantly distinguish them as Vox creations. To achieve this, Vox enlisted the London Design Centre in 1962 to propose original guitar body designs. The outcome of this collaboration was the distinctive "coffin" shaped Phantom VI guitar.

Following the success of the Phantom VI, Vox developed a new solid-body guitar with a "teardrop" shape. This guitar featured the same triple single-coil pickup configuration inspired by the Stratocaster, as seen on the Phantom VI. It also incorporated identical hardware, including the bridge, vibrato arm, and Eko-manufactured "paddle headstock" neck. While the Phantom had a three-position rotary pickup switch, the Teardrop utilized a three-position toggle switch.

This 12 string example retains all of its original components and displays signs of use. Finish checking is present throughout the body of the guitar and there are a few nicks here and there. However, overall, this is instrument is in excellent condition!
