Ask any Gibson electric aficionado what year in the 60s is the most special to the brand, the answer will most likely be: 1964. The main drive is for the comfortable neck shape and the Patent Sticker humbuckers. In 1964, the ES, Electric Spanish, semi-hollowbody guitar models were still relatively new to the lineup. At the top of the heap was the 355. Compared to the more well-known 335 model, the 355 received the higher-end gold hardware, binding, and inlay work. It was also paired with the state of the art stereo varitone system; which was often removed by players in the 70s/80s for slight weight relief or were not aware that "1" was a disengage position. Varitone systems are a fun way to play around with the sound of your installed pickups beyond just rolling a tone knob off; we are finding a much greater appreciation for the stereo varitone models in their original forms. This one has Patent Sticker humbuckers, so you know it's already on the right track for the tone journey. This ES-355 is a survivor in that it retains its stereo function and has its factory installed tremolo. It's a transition model of sorts as it has a "Custom Made" plaque, but the anchors have never been installed underneath (as the paint is un-disturbed).
Comes with original light blue hardshell case, typically found on the Epiphone line and for exports.
