As the predecessor to the American Standard Stratocaster, this early 80's model is affectionately referenced as the Dan Smith Stratocaster. The new head of marketing (Dan Smith) began to harken the model back to the much loved roots of pre-CBS Stratocasters. He began by implementing a more accurate logo and smaller headstock design to undo some inconsistencies the CBS era encroached on the instrument. What resulted from this entirely new approach was a resurgence in Fender as a company and the Stratocaster as a leading guitar in the industry. While players so often think about how the Stratocaster's legacy thrives because of the 50's and 60's, it would not have the widespread impact it does today without the Dan Smith Stratocaster.
This guitar has seen some play wear over the years but remains a well playing guitar. It sounds great and has a unique trem system from the 80's. The black finish shows some scratching but still looks good.
