This gorgeous "funk fret" Model L from Yorkshire luthier Tom Sands arrived at TNAG in early 2022, and is now back on the market! The L of course stands for "large", and this mighty guitar clocks in at 16" wide across the lower bout and 5" deep, but with modern curves and a cutaway to offer plenty of accessibility and playing comfort. The multi-scale fan fret design brings a combination of mellow trebles and powerful bass, making this a guitar that works beautifully for all styles of playing. The master-grade Swiss spruce and Madagascar rosewood ensure a rich, complex tone. The bass is powerful, and across the spectrum, it's incredibly articulate and responsive to a strong, decisive attack. As good as it sounded new, we think it sounds even better now.
Tom's choice of appointments is, as always, modern and distinctive, yet tastefully cohesive. Crelicam ebony on the fretboard, peghead overlay, and bridge provides rich wood texture, while a dramatic offset shape to the bridge accentuates the fan-fret design. The fine copper rosette accents the reddish hues in both the Madagascar rosewood as well as the ebony. Another fine example of Tom's craftsmanship.
Condition is excellent, with a couple very fine, small marks in the finish on the top, and only one small scratch on the back that is under a centimeter long. It comes in its original fitted Hoffee case. Named "Prudence" you can hear not only our original demo, played by Carl Miner, but Tom's recordings with Will McNicol as well (videos below).
