David Smrz studied and fell in love with luthiery at an instrument and furniture building in Hradec Kralove. Every one of his guitars contain a piece of Prague's history through the use of salvaged wood! David prides himself not only on knowing the origin and sustainability of the materials he uses, but on longevity and repairability as well.
This brand new mid-sized flamed maple DS is a sister guitar to the other Salz guitar listed here, built as identically as possible aside from differing back and side woods. The structured sides feature an outer 1.5mm layer of maple, a 6mm core of basswood, and 0.6mm inner veneer of reclaimed bog oak (from the Charles Bridge, one of the oldest in Prague!). This unique construction creates excellent stability, typically allowing for thinner, more flexible tops and backs. There is also an active back plate, and possibly the most compelling feature for traveling players: an active bolt on/bolt off, carbon-fiber reinforced neck. This allows the guitar to be disassembled in five minutes! A couple more unique touches complete this guitar: a rosette of recycled paper from old math books, coffee ground, epoxy and brass, and an easy to repair finish that combines an epoxy base coat with an oil top coat.
This guitar is located with the luthier in Prague, Czech Republic.
