Ken LeVan hand builds one-of-a-kind guitars and banjos from his home in the woods of Northern Appalachia! Often utilizing not just domestic woods but trees from very close to home, his tone and aesthetic has a clear wood-focused appeal. We had the honor of trying his guitars at the 2023 Artisan Guitar Show, and we're delighted to feature them on CVE!

This OM-size M model is deeper than most standard OMs at 4-3/8", giving it a bit more heft and growl than a typical OM. Loose and responsive, it has a warm voice with a nice, strong bass, perfect for Americana strumming and fingerpicking. In his mission to use sustainable, local wood sources, this is one of several ghost ambrosia maple guitars Ken has built. Stunning enough in figure on its own, he's also filled the wormholes on the back with pearl, giving it a constellation effect. In keeping with that, he put a moon inlay theme on the fretboard. Alaskan Sitka spruce tops it, while the maple neck has a chunkier feel (but not quite on par with an old Gibson), with a short scale for relaxed and easy strumming. Ships in a hardshell case.

This guitar is currently located with the luthier in Pennsylvania, USA. Shipping times will vary by buyer location.

Seller Info

Designed and made by hand in the Northern Appalachians. Every one is a custom design in one way or another. I develop a design for each customer and every instrument we build is a prototype of that design. I’m not a mass-producer—in the tradition of luthiers, I am a one-person studio, and make every part of the instrument according to a unique design and when you commission a project you become part of the design process. As an industrial designer, I’m very familiar with manufacturing, and have incorporated special features and hand work into my instruments that I know is not easily done in a factory or by mass production. No modern computer-controlled machinery or serial production methods are used.
