I purchased the ES-175D in 1985 and I was the 2nd owner. The first owner hardly played the instrument and it was essentially sitting in a closet at his parent's house when I visited to have a look and play it. I've hardly played the guitar in close to 20 years. It was kept in a high-quality case all these years. I won't get into my reasons for selling, but I'm not in a hurry nor am I desperate to make a sale. The guitar is not in its original case. I would say that the guitar is in close to excellent condition. A few small dings in the sides. The soundboard, the back, the neck, and the fretboard have no dings or blemishes whatsoever. The original case kind of disintegrated and I finally decided that such a fine instrument should be kept in a top-notch case.
It was appraised by Joseph Vinikow of Archtop.com in 2018, and he confirmed the following:
Finish: Sunburst, appears original
Structural integrity: Appears excellent
Playwear: Appears minimal, some scattered checking to lacquer
Hardware: Appears original
Restoration or modifications: None apparent or reported
He finishes his assessment with "A professional quality instrument of interest to players and collectors alike". More photos and assessment document from Archtop.com available upon request.
